WHAT TO EXPECT AT YOUR FIRST APPOINTMENT
When you arrive for your appointment you will be asked to fill in some paperwork covering your personal details, referring doctor and Medicare and Private Health Fund details. If you are referred for treatment under Work Cover, Comcare or an Insurance Claim, we will need your claim number and contact details of your Claim Manager. You will also be given a brief questionnaire to fill in and information on our privacy policy.
At your first appointment the psychologist will be interested in getting to know you, including your personal and family history, your experiences of previous treatment, as well as expectations of treatment and what you would like to achieve as a result of our work together. As well as developing goals for your treatment, the first session is also a good opportunity for you to ask questions about your treatment. You may also be given some information to read or websites to look at for further information.
It is important for you to know that no first session is exactly the same. Everyone is different and while it may be possible to discuss personal and family history, expectations and goals in the first session for one individual, it may take two or more sessions for another individual.
